This module is divided into two halves. The half on passive remote sensing considers the numerous ways in which scattered solar radiation and emitted thermal infrared radiation from the earth can be interpreted by satellites in terms of the properties of the atmosphere. The half on active remote sensing considers the use of radar and lidar instruments for recovering higher resolution information about precipitation, clouds and winds.
